I loved everything about this session. Forest Park never ceases to amaze- even though the flowering trees of spring are long gone, you can always explore just a little bit more and find gorgeous, quiet spots for rambunctious little ones to roam around in. And the rambunctious little ones from this session? Oh. my. goodness. You just don't see that much cuteness every day. That hair! Those eyes!
I was so happy to learn the day of our shoot was actually Jenny and Weston's 10 year anniversary. I will never get over how lucky I am to get to share a little bit in these incredibly special moments. Congratulations, you two! Here's to many, many more with your beautiful, wonderful family. Thank you so much for letting me share this special day with you!
About the light: if I have a choice in the matter, I will almost always use back-lighting for my images. There's just something about a glowy, sparkly background that I can't get enough of. But I didn't discover until this very session, actually, the magical powers of reflectors. That picture of Jenny by herself? The lighting in it was *perfect* straight-out-of-camera (SOOC). That never happens!!

Spring is here in St. Louis!! (Thank heavens!) I think God made the winters so long in the Midwest so we would really, really, really appreciate the coming of spring.
The M family and I spent a morning enjoying the soft, light-filled beauty of Tower Grove Park in the spring-time. Magical areas like this can be hard to come by in the early days of spring around here, so thank goodness we found just the right spot.
It's a special year for this growing family: Grandma and Grandpa will be celebrating their 40th anniversary in June (congratulations, you two!), *and* they've recently welcomed their very first grandbaby (first grandbabies are such a big deal!), beautiful and bubbly 8 month old Baby A. It is amazing what 40 years can bring :)

So...I've had my nose stuck in chemistry books (literally) for the last several months, and it has been grey and cold around here for far too long, and spring is almost here (!), and I am so very, very ready to start making pretty pictures again. As exciting as general chemistry II is...
On a related note, I will be renting some fancy gear for the month of May, and I plan on having it pretty much glued to my face for the next few weeks. I have also purchased some new editing software that I'm itching to use.
I am offering a 25% discount on all my collections for any sessions booked now until May 31. You should *totally* get in on this :)

Leave it to St. Louis to have that one sunny, perfect day right smack-dab in the middle of the longest, coldest winter ever. Props to M's mom, who bided her time and called it perfectly. Baby Matilda just turned one, and I spent that one beautiful Saturday morning in February chasing her and darling big sister (who has the best smile. ever.). Enjoy!
About the light: here's to stepping outside of one's comfort zone to shoot in completely crazy, mid-day light. I never would have given this location a second glance under my usual shooting conditions (right before sunset), but it was just perfect for our little shoot, and I am totally taking my own kids back there sometime at high noon for their own personal photoshoot.

When a friend (who is also a photographer) asks if you want to do a family session swap, you say yes. Immediately. Especially when the photographer friend is the talented Tiffany of Tiffany Sharp Photography. She does gorgeous work, and she's new to the area- you should definitely take a moment to check her out.
We got to spend a light-filled evening at Faust Park in St. Louis, and I cannot get over how adorable this family is (and how many gorgeous parks St. Louis has- I don't feel like I've even begun to scratch the surface of the parks around here).
About the light- I don't think I'll ever get over the transformative powers of good light. That mangy-looking bush that has about 6 leaves and looks like absolutely nothing special? A little late afternoon light and ta-da! You've got yourself the perfect, sparkly backdrop.

Matt and Katie met as RAs in college, and nothing was ever the same. Ten years of marriage, six moves, and three gorgeous children later, the life they've built together just keeps getting more and more beautiful. This family invests so much in their church, community, and country, and I was so grateful for the opportunity to capture a few moments in their lives on a positively sparkling evening in late October.
